Diocese of Imphal, Manipur was established on 21st of April 1980 with Rt. Rev. Joseph Mittathany D.D. as its first Bishop under Pope John Paul II. It was later raised to Archdiocese on 1st August 1996. Most Rev. Joseph Mittathany D.D was its first Archbishop. He was later succeeded by Most Rev. Dominic Lumon DD on 12th of July 2006. On 8th October 2023 Most. Rev. Linus Neli DD was appointed as the 3rd Archbishop of Imphal, Manipur
Archdiocese of Imphal has 111 diocesan priests, 75 religious priests working in 51 Parishes/Quasi Parishes and 384 religious nuns in 89 convents, 56 touring catechists and 433 local catechists. There are over 38 High School, 26 Junior Schools, 14 Higher Secondary Schools, 4 Colleges, 6 NGOs, 13 Dispensaries and 1 Hospital for the people of Manipur. It has 101,918 Catholic members and about 66,657 (2025 Survey Report) Students studying in various educational institutions run by the Archdiocese of Imphal, Manipur.
